Be Aware of Online Banking Fraud

You have to be aware of online banking fraud all of the time, no matter where you are using the computer. Don’t ever give out your login details to anyone, whether you trust them with your life or not. You should also not write down the details or save them on your phone for security reasons, unless you put them under code names that only you know. Phishing is a term used when you are tricked into providing your banking details via email. These email scams go around quite frequently, and they may even be “signed” by someone from Standard Bank, ABSA, FNB or Nedbank.
If you receive one of these emails that seem to be a part of the email scams but you aren’t sure, you should give your bank a call just to find out, because you have to be aware of online banking fraud. FNB, ABSA, Nedbank and Standard Bank along with any other bank should never ask you for your personal banking details, so if you receive an email asking you to provide your login details for “security reasons” don’t, under any circumstances give it to them. Should this happen to you, you are more than likely experiencing “phishing” and should report it immediately and they might be able to catch the fraudster before they do any damage, if they haven’t already.
Spending your money and paying bills online is so much more convenient than going to stand in a queue at the bank, but it is not as safe as many people think it is. Keep your details safe (preferably in your head) and use extreme caution when working with your money on the website of your bank. Always be aware of online banking fraud wherever you go and whatever website you are on, no matter what you are doing, just be careful.
