SANTIAGO, Chile, May 31 (UPI) — Chile’s fast modernizing navy is investing undisclosed millions into an advanced asset management system that will increase the force’s battle-readiness and control of its defense inventories.
Mincom Ellipse 8, devised by Australian enterprise asset management solution provider Mincom, will allow the Chilean navy to keep track of its seaborne and land-based assets and to manage both the inventory and financial costs at different levels.
The Chilean navy is one of the most advanced seafaring forces, closely aligned with the U.S.

Here in North Carolina we know all to well that disasters can strike at any time. In this YouTube video, the IRS provides guidance for protecting tax and other important documents from natural disasters.
Our firm has nightly offsite backup – now that we are (semi) paperless, I worry a lot less about something happening to all my office files.

Most modern businesses accept plastic. Credit and debit card payments account for sixty percent of all retail transactions. The numbers are even more lopsided online, where nine in ten transactions involve plastic. It is clear that we are headed for an increasingly cashless society. What does this mean for American businesses?
No matter their size, history or reputation, every business that accepts credit/debit card payments must apply for and obtain a merchant service account. Offered by banks and other authorized financial institutions, these providers perform a number of essential services for their merchant clients. For starters, they check to see if the card is valid. NEW YORK, May 22 (UPI) — Private luxury group Labelux said Sunday it will buy fashion house Jimmy Choo from TowerBrook Capital Partners and other shareholders.
TowerBrook, deciding against earlier plans to take Jimmy Choo public, will sell the high-end shoe, handbag and accessory maker to a “strategic buyer that valued the company at about $800 million,” sources wishing to remain anonymous told The New York Times.
“Jimmy Choo has expanded from 60 stores to an international footprint of 120 sites and substantial potential awaits the Jimmy Choo brand, particularly in Asia, where Labelux has a proven track record,” Ramez Sousou, co-chief executive of TowerBrook, which bought the company in 2007, told the Times.
Jimmy Choo’s founder and chief creative officer, Tamara Mellon, will stay with the company, the newspaper said.
The deal is expected to be finalized in June.

I’ve been at the North Carolina Guardianship Association conference for the last couple of days. One issue that I never really gave much thought to is that the Veterans Administration, as a federal agency, does not recognize state guardianships. Neither the adjudication of incompetency under state law nor the appointment of a guardian is given credence by the VA.
Thus, a guardian has no authority to deal with VA benefit payments, and must initiate a federal proceeding to attempt to gain that right. The VA will make its own determination of incompetency, based on different standards than state law. Then, if the veteran or spouse is determined to be incompetent, a federal fiduciary is appointed. This may or may not be the same person as the guardian.
The federal fiduciary deals only with the VA payments, and must use the money in accordance with a strict spending plan set by the VA. There is virtually no discretion involved.
